UniArgus - Mega Eyes: Securing Special Olympics Shanghai Invitational Games
UniSVR
and Shanghai Telecom, a subsidiary of China Telecom, have worked
together to provide an advanced surveillance solution for 2006 Special
Olympics Shanghai
Invitational Games. The solution helped the members of the executive
committee oversee the event and security personnel take effective
actions which were extremely important to these special athletes and visitors.
The 2006 Special Olympic Shanghai Invitation Tournament opened on October 13. It was a rehearsal for 2007
Shanghai Special Olympic World Summer Games and all aspects of the
preparations were tested, including the basic procedures, the
operations of the stadiums and reception services.
UniSVR worked with Shanghai
Telecom to propose UniArgus – Mega Eyes solution to the executive
committee for the Olympics and set up a video surveillance command
center for the committee in a stadium that holds over 80,000 people.
The major requirements include the central monitoring of the stadiums
for overseeing events and activities and the video retrievals of the
stadiums in the command center.
UniSVR worked tightly with Shanghai
Telecom and its authorized system integrators to make sure the
requirements of the executive committee were 100% fulfilled. The
installations were completed and tested successfully on time despite of
the tight schedule. On-site supports were provided to ensure the
success of the operations during the invitational tournament and won
high remarks of the executive committee. It also sets milestone for
UniSVR and Shanghai Telecom to support securing Special Olympic World
Summer Games next year.
Central management, distributed processing and remote monitoring are three keys to bring to the success of the project.
- Distributed processing
The DVRs and CCTV cameras were installed in the stadiums. The video
images captured by the DVRs were sent to UniArgus – Mega Eyes
systems installed in the command center.
- Central management
The committee members, security personnel and others monitored all
major activities through UniArgus – Mega Eyes systems. The
members of the committee could easily oversee the event, provide
supervision and identify management items to improve. The security
personnel constantly monitored the stadiums and took effective actions
to incidents. Their quick responses and special attentions were
critical and won the hearts of these special athletes and visitors.
- Remote monitoring
The personnel with privilege were able to login and view the event
through a web browser. It was particularly helpful to those who could not be in Shanghai to attend the event.
UniSVR and Shanghai Telecom were very proud to support the invitational
tournament and would continue to provide full support for 2007 Shanghai
Special Olympic World Summer Games based on the practice learned in the
invitational tournament.
